Novelist releases best work as free e-book

NORTH SOMERSET, 28/07/2013 – Science fiction novelist Gareth L. Powell has taken the brave step of releasing some of his most well-received work as a free e-book, downloadable from his website.

The e-book, which is titled ‘Entropic Angel’, features four of Gareth’s favourite short stories, and excerpts from his first three published novels: Ack-Ack Macaque, Silversands, and The Recollection.

Gareth (42), whose novels are published by Solaris Books in the UK and USA, says he decided to release the collection for free in order to say thank you to his existing readers, as well as attracting new ones.

“Several people contacted me saying they liked the sound of my work but were unsure where to start, so I put together this collection to give them a taste of each of my books.”

Gareth, whose fourth novel, Hive Monkey, will be published by Solaris in January next year, has been compared in reviews to J.G. Ballard. His books have been favourably reviewed in The Guardian and, in 2007, one of his stories came top of Interzone magazine’s annual readers’ poll for best short story of the year.

He said, “People can download this collection for free, and share it with their friends. I hope some of them will be moved to go on and buy one of my books; but if they just want to enjoy the stories for free, that’s cool too. This isn’t about sales, it’s about reaching out to new readers.

A regular contributor to anthologies and magazines, Gareth has co-written stories with Paul Graham Raven and Aliette de Bodard; given guest lectures on creative writing at Bath Spa University; penned a strip for Britain’s long-running sci-fi and fantasy comic, 2000AD; and written articles on science fiction for The Irish Times and SFX Magazine. He is professionally represented by the John Jarrold Literary Agency.

Entropic Angel is available to download in either epub or mobi (Kindle) format from his website: www.garethlpowell.com
