Andrey V Chernikov at Eksmo has acquired Russian rights to the first three volumes of The Bound and the Broken fantasy series, which has sold over 40,000 copies so far, by successful self-published author Ryan Cahill: OF BLOOD AND FIRE, OF DARKNESS AND LIGHT and OF WAR AND RUIN. The agent was John Jarrold.

Born in fire. Tempered in blood.

Epheria is a land divided by war and mistrust. The High Lords of the South squabble and fight, only kept in check by the Dragonguard, traitors of a time long past, who serve the empire of the North.

In the remote villages of southern Epheria, still reeling from the tragic loss of his brother, Calen Bryer prepares for The Proving – a test of courage and skill that not all survive.

But when three strangers arrive in the village of Milltown, with a secret they are willing to die for, Calen’s world is ripped from under him and he is thrust headfirst into a war that has been raging for centuries.

There is no prophecy. His coming was not foretold.

He bleeds like any man, and bleed he will.

PRESS RELEASE – FANTASY AUTHOR RYAN CAHILL JOINS JJLA

Ryan Cahill

Ryan Cahill is the latest client of the John Jarrold Literary Agency. He is the author of the successfully self-published series The Bound and The Broken. It currently consists of two full length novels and two novellas, with a third novel due for publication at the end of the year and two more full length novels planned. The series is Classic Epic Fantasy told with a modern narrative voice and focuses on themes of family, hope, and perseverance in a harsh world. It contains multiple sprawling POVs that grow with the series, and works around tropes of found family, not-chosen-one-chosen-one, and dragonriders. Since initial publication of Book One in March 2021, his books have sold over 40,000 copies across ebook, paperback, hardback, and audio formats. The first book in the series, OF BLOOD AND FIRE, won the Stabby Award for Best Indie Novel of 2021.

Ryan Cahill was born in Dublin, Ireland. He was lucky enough to be born to parents that cherished books and adored stories. With every book they read, they brought it to life. A different voice for every character. A different setting for each world. A different facial expression for each sarcastic joke.

It was because of this, Ryan fell in love with the craft of storytelling. Growing up with authors such as J.K. Rowling, Terry Pratchett and J. R. R. Tolkien – before discovering the worlds of George R. R. Martin, Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson – Ryan was always immersed in the art of worldbuilding. In the creation of a world that could transport you to a place in your mind where nothing else could ever reach you.

At the age of seven, Ryan even attempted to write his own book; to create his own world. It didn’t go to plan. Seven-year-olds don’t tend to have much follow through.

It’s a good thing he never gave up.

“Having read and worked with many very successful fantasy authors over the years, including being the original UK acquiring editor for Robert Jordan’s THE EYE OF THE WORLD and its first two sequels when I ran Orbit, it’s an area I love. Ryan’s writing, world building and characters got under my skin straight away. I’m so delighted to welcome him to the JJLA!” said John Jarrold.
