BESTSELLING SELF-PUBLISHED AUTHOR A C COBBLE JOINS JJLA FOR TRANSLATION RIGHTS

AC Cobble

Best selling self-published author A C Cobble is now represented by the John Jarrold Literary Agency for all translation rights.

A C Cobble has published 16 books out across 4 series, including Benjamin Ashwood 1-6, The Cartographer 1-3, The King’s Ranger 1-6, and Wahrheit 1 (second is complete and being Kickstarted as we speak). He has been writing since 2016, and full-time since 2017, and has ranged between 2 and 4 books published a year.

The books have sold well over 500,000 English language copies, including full reads in Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program. Benjamin Ashwood was his first series, and is still the most successful, though others are catching up. He began Kickstarting books with his Wahrheit series, and the first campaign raised $61,000. The second campaign is underway, and funded in just three hours.

He has self-published Benjamin Ashwood and King’s Ranger in German, and Benjamin Ashwood is currently on Book 5 of a six-book deal with Fabryka Slow in Poland.

John Jarrold said: “Andrew’s classic fantasy is terrific – as you can see from his sales figures, and I’ve really enjoyed reading his work. I’m delighted to welcome him to the agency, and 2023 will see very interesting conversations with publishers across the world!”

ALICIA WANSTALL-BURKE JOINS JJLA

Alicia 2

Splitting her time between Central Queensland, Australia and Lancashire, England, Alicia is a writer, a mum and a cat-herder. She began writing in her teens and never grew out of the phase, self-publishing Blood of Heirs in 2018, Legacy of Ghosts in 2019, and the final book of The Coraidic Sagas trilogy, Empire of Shadows, in 2022. She is an accomplished editor, holds a Bachelor of Education and has studied a Post Graduate Certificate in Ancient History.

Her new novel, The Smuggler’s Daughter, is the first Book of Salt and Stone, a planned trilogy of adult fantasy novels set in a lawless archipelago under impending threat of colonisation by a Romanesque empire. As a newly crowned empress presses west with her expanding navy, agents from the independent nations on her border uncover a clandestine plot that will spark an arms race. In an effort to thwart these plans, they seek the help of an unwilling and notorious ship’s captain. Already branded a war criminal by the empire, she will be forced to choose between her personal battles and the war looming on the horizon. A war none of them can afford to lose.

This is perfect for readers of The Bone Ships by RJ Barker and The Waking Fire by Anthony Ryan, while the unique setting feels akin to Gunmetal Gods by Zamil Akhtar. Alicia said: “If pressed for an elevator pitch, I would say The Books of Salt and Stone are Black Sails meets A Song of Ice and Fire.”

This story is brimming with spies, magic, dragons, sea-battles, distinctive settings, and a diverse cast.

John Jarrold said: “In terms of the characters, the setting and the plotlines – which take you into unexpected places –  I loved this; as I did Alicia’s earlier novels.  It’s great to have her on board with the agency!”

Praise for Alicia Wanstall-Burke:

“This is riveting epic fantasy. Fast paced, brutal action, dark & confronting.” – Juliet Marillier, author of the Sevenwaters & Warrior Bards series.

“…solid writing, real characters that you’ll end up rooting for, excitement, moments of genuine pathos, and a young girl getting stabby – very likely to please.” – Mark Lawrence, author of The Broken Empire, The Red Queen’s War, and The Book of the Ancestor trilogies.

“Epic fantasy rarely feels this intimate. This close. This dangerous and thrilling.” – John Birmingham, author of The Cruel Stars and the End of Days trilogies.

“A brilliantly imagined and vividly realised novel.” – Anna Stephens, author of The Stone Knife and The Godblind Trilogy.
