New US Deal With Orbit for John Gwynne Fantasy Trilogy
Jon Mitchell, Rights Director at Macmillan, has sold North American rights in three further novels by UK fantasy novelist John Gwynne – to Will Hinton at Orbit US, who have already acquired all four novels in John, first series, The Faithful and the Fallen: MALICE, VALOUR, RUIN and WRATH, which has rights deals across Europe.
MALICE won the Morningstar Award for Best Debut Fantasy Novel in the David Gemmell Legend Awards.
This new standalone trilogy will be set in the same stirring Celtic-inspired world as John’s first quartet. Here, the Banished Lands now seem at peace. However, guardians appointed to enforce it have their own agenda, and mankind will suffer. One central character, Rae, is part-guardian and part-human. And if she can prevail through conflict, crisis and adventure, she may hold the key to humanity’s ultimate freedom. Senior Commissioning Editor Bella Pagan bought World rights in the series from agent John Jarrold, in a six-figure deal. The first book is due for UK publication in autumn 2017.
Bestselling novelist Conn Iggulden said of MALICE:
‘Influenced by Gemmell’s RIGANTE and George R R Martin’s GAME OF THRONES – two good strands of DNA. Great characters and plot – it gets faster and more fascinating by the page…Hell of a debut. Highly recommended’
The INDEPENDENT said:
‘With its warring clans, sleeping giants, Banished Lands and omens and portents…is a strong contender for the “if you like GAME OF THRONES why not try this” award’
